Ingram to Headline MAC Jazz Fest
Mineral Area College is gearing up for the 28th Annual Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 1.
This year’s festival will feature trumpeter Roger Ingram, said to be among the most prolific lead trumpeters today with thousands of performances and recordings. Known for his dynamic sound and driving swing, his legacy is embodied by regard for artistic integrity.
As part of the Mineral Area College Jazz Fest on March 1, Ingram will present a master class at noon and perform in an 8:30 p.m. concert along with MAC’s Jazz Ensemble and Kicks Band. Tickets for the concert’s reserved seats are $7 for students and $15 for adults and should be purchased in advance at the Mineral Area College Bookstore, or by calling (573) 518-2106.
Ingram’s professional career started at 16 with Louie Bellson, Quincy Jones, and Tom Jones. Later, he played with Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, Paul Anka, and 20 years with Harry Connick Jr. His busy schedule includes writing, presenting clinics, making guest-soloist appearances, teaching, and performing/recording.
The foundation for the community college’s annual jazz festival was based on the hard work and commitment of the late music instructor, Carol Moore. The jazz festival was renamed in her memory after she passed away in 2008.
