Dec. 10: MAC PTK to Host Motivational Seminar, Sullivan to Speak
With the end of the year looming and a new round of New Year’s resolutions on the way, Mineral Area College Phi Theta Kappa is hosting a motivational speaker to help people find their mojo to effect positive change in their lives.
Mineral Area College Phi Theta Kappa will host a motivational seminar on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at Valley Creek Coffee House, 812 Valley Creek Dr., Farmington. Jerry Sullivan, a member of MAC Board of Trustees, will speak on intrinsic motivation and how to become the better "you.” Participants will have the opportunity to take a personality profile and explore their own internal motivation based upon their specific personality color. The event is free and open to the public. More information can be had by contacting email@example.com or (573) 518-2147.
Jenny Peters is a faculty advisor for PTK, along with faculty advisor Emily Murdock. Peters said the seminar is the final piece of the honor society’s “Honors in Action” project centering on the theme of the Culture of Competition. Members of the Lamdba Chapter of PTK at MAC have been studying this theme during the spring and fall semesters this year.
“Mr. Sullivan not only serves on the MAC Board of Trustees, but he’s the retired director for TRIO programs at MAC, which reach kids in elementary, junior high and high schools to help them think about and prepare for college,” Peters said. “He brings a lot of knowledge and leadership experience from his personal life as well, having been involved in a number of civic initiatives and posts. Sometimes we all need a boost to rediscover our sense of motivation, and I think anyone who attends will find the encouragement and strength they need to continue their academic and personal pursuits.”
