Jones New Head Baseball Coach
After serving four years as assistant coach, Blake Jones (MAC 2004-06) was named MAC’s new head baseball coach, replacing Coach Stan Walden who retired after the spring baseball season.
Blake served in the assistant coaching capacity with coaches Walden and Gerwitz. His collegiate coaching career began at Lincoln University in 2009. Blake’s high school baseball was played at Valley of Caledonia, where he earned three-time All-State recognition. As a MAC Cardinals pitcher, he participated in the Region 16 All-Star game. Blake transferred to Lincoln University in Jefferson City where he finished his collegiate baseball career.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to coach baseball at Mineral Area College. I’m looking forward to the challenges of being a head coach in Region 16. Having played here, it’s an honor to now coach here. It’s been a smooth transition because I worked with Stan and Jim and had an idea what to expect,” states Blake. “We’ve definitely got some talented players who produced a good fall season. It’s a nice group of young men who pay attention to the academics, too. Everyone is looking forward to a good spring season. We’d be thrilled to have alumni and friends come and watch us play.”
Blake is joined by three assistant coaches. Former MAC ballplayers Garrett Wiggans (MAC 2006-08) and Brandon Hubbard (MAC 1998-2000) are excited to be back as Cardinals. Garrett works with the pitchers and Brandon works with the defense. Mike Overman, Blake’s Lincoln University teammate, works with the hitters.
