In the Midst of Fall, MAC Looks Forward to Spring

The autumn leaves are beginning to fall, and so are the days on the calendar that lead up to the beginning of spring semester at Mineral Area College.
“Spring classes start January 13, and even though that seems like a long way off, it’s a good idea to get the ball rolling sooner than later,” Registrar Pam Reeder said. “Before we know it, we’ll be registering students in March for summer classes.”

Reeder said many potential students will be hitting MAC’s website,, to check out the course schedule, apply to college, reserve books, or register online.

“Every year, we try to increase our capacity to serve the public on our website; it’s a great, one-stop shop where students can find out answers to questions regarding classes, financial aid, and the college in general,” she said.
Spring semester begins January 13 and ends May 17. The eight-week summer semester begins June 2 and ends July 28. MAC also offers 8-week classes in the spring, and 4- week and 6-week classes in the summer. Many classes are also offered at night, online, by telecourse and interactive television in a MAC classroom.
“People’s schedules are as varied as the classes we offer, so we try to meet a variety of needs when we think about offering classes,” Dean of Students Jean Merrill-Doss said. “We try to meet the early-morning needs of that student who needs to get to work in the afternoon, and the after-five needs of students who work during the day and attend classes at night. Some classes are even offered on Saturday mornings, and on a weekend format.”
Registration for spring classes for current students begins October 14. Registration is open to the public Oct. 21.
