Veterans Honored at MAC
At Mineral Area College’s Veterans Day Observance, students Albert Casares and Scott Bates spoke to the crowd about what the national holiday means to them.
The men and women who served, fought and died for our nation were honored during Mineral Area College’s Student Government Association Nov. 7.
SGA President Stephen Johnson greeted the audience after MAC Law Enforcement Academy students presented the flags. “Star Spangled Banner” was sung by SGA Vice President Meagan Buchanan and MAC CIS Technician Wendell Johnson, and SGA member Jason Branham recognized the veterans in attendance.
Several speakers told of what the day meant to them, including Scott Bates, SPC E4,
Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom; Tim Pickett of the U.S. Army, Desert Storm; Ashley Ferguson, daughter of PFC Travis Ferguson; and Albert Casares, who read a Poem called “A Soldier.”
“Taps” was played by MAC music majors Levi Patterson and Kevin Little.
Veterans Day is celebrated in this country on Nov. 11, the anniversary date of the signing of the armistice of WWI. MAC’s observance predates the national holiday, which this year falls on Sunday.
